Local Methodist Missions There are a variety of local Methodist Missions that Bemiss UMC supports and encourages involvement in. Camp Tygart : profit organization supported and operated by the United Methodist Church. All Christian denominations are welcome to reserve, and use our facilities. The land was given by the late Jeff D. Tygart of Nashville as a center for South Central District United Methodist adults, youth and children to enjoy God’s great outdoors. Camp Tygart is also the home to the South Georgia Walk to Emmaus & Chrysalis programs as well as Camp Arrow.
Magnolia Manor: Magnolia Manor is a ministry of the United Methodist Church and serves older adults of all faiths throughout South Georgia. This not-for-profit Georgia Corporation was chartered in 1959. Governed by a Board of Trustees, Magnolia Manor provides a loving Christian environment and a caring staff, ensuring the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of residents and their families. Services include a wide array of independent retirement living options, assisted living, skilled nursing care, rehabilitative therapy and specialized memory care.
The Methodist Home: In response to Christ and the Church, the mission of the Methodist Home is to be a model agency that restores childhoods, strengthens families and cultivates a people-building organization.
Vashti Center: The mission of The Vashti Center is to provide children, youth, and families with resources necessary to grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Our goal is to change destructive behavior patterns and establish new behaviors and coping skills, to promote increased self-esteem, to establish more appropriate perceptions of self and others, and to enjoy life to the fullest.
VSU Wesley Center: A campus ministry at Valdosta State University, the Wesley Center strives to show God’s love to people and to build up Christian leaders.
Wesley Glen: Established in 1984, Wesley Glen Ministries serves adults with developmental disabilities by providing a home environment and continuum of programs to allow each individual to develop skills and greater confidence, living happy, full lives as contributing members of their Wesley Glen family and the surrounding community.
UMCOR: The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to alleviating human suffering around the globe. UMCOR’s work reaches people in more than 80 countries, including the United States. We provide humanitarian relief when war, conflict, or natural disaster disrupt life to such an extent that communities are unable to recover on their own.
Operation Christmas Child: A division of Samaritan’s Purse, Operation Christmas Child has been giving packed shoe boxes of needed supplies to children around the globe to over 130 countries since 1993. The gifts are life changing as they also share the good news of Jesus Christ.
Hungry At Home: Hungry At Home was established in Lowndes County, GA to “bridge the gap” between home and school so children do not have to be hungry while away from school.
